School of Marxism
I. History and Development
Founded in 2006. the School of Marxism, was formerly known as the Moral Education Department of Marxism and Leninism. Its predecessor, the Political Teaching Group of Shenyang Teachers’ College, was established in 1953 and offered the undergraduate program of Ideological and Political Education. The School of Marxism is now authorized to confer eight postgraduate programs: Basic Principles of Marxism, Study on Sinicization of Marxism, Ideological and Political Education, Research on Basic Problems of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History, Marxist Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Ethics, and philosophy of science and technology. The school is also authorized to offer an undergraduate program,Ideological and Political Education Speciality, which has won various titles and honours at national and provincial levels, including “National First-Class Undergraduate Speciality”, “Liaoning Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Speciality”, “Liaoning Provincial Exemplary Speciality for First-Class Undergraduate Education”.

II． Faculty and Students
As of December 2022, the school has had an enrolment of 377 undergraduate students, who will be conferred a Bachelor’s of Law; 154 graduate candidates, who will be conferred a Master’s of Law or Philosophy.
Our school now has 74 full-time teachers, 46 of whom have doctorates, and 24 are professors and associate professors. 1 teacher is awarded “National Excellent Teacher”, 1 “National Model Teacher”, 3 “Provincial Undergraduate Prominent Teachers”, 2 “Provincial Excellent Teachers”, 1 “The Most Beautiful Teacher in Liaoning Province”, 2 “The Most Beautiful Ideological and Political Teachers in Liaoning Province”, 3 “Annual Influential Figures of Ideological and Political Theory Teachers in Colleges and Universities in Liaoning province”, 1 “Talent at the Level of One Hundred People and 2 “Talents at the Level of One Thousand People” of the “One Hundred-One Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent Project” of Liaoning Province”, one “Young High-Level Talent in ‘Liaoning Revitalization Talent Program’ of Liaoning Province”, 11 “Teaching Experts in Ideological and Political Theory Courses of Universities at both National Level and Liaoning Province Level”. Meanwhile, the School of Marxism has more than 10 experts, such as the communication evaluation experts of the National Social Science Fund, the deputy directors of Teaching and Steering Committee of Marxist Theory Speciality in Liaoning Province, and the deputy directors of Teaching and Steering Committee of the Ideological and Political Courses of Universities in Liaoning Province.
III．Degree Programs
Undergraduate programs: The school offers an undergraduate program of Ideological and Political Education. In 2016, it was awarded the first place in “Comprehensive Evaluation of Undergraduate Speciality in Colleges and Universities in Liaoning Province”. In 2018, it was approved as “The First Batch of First-Class Exemplary Speciality for Undergraduate Education in Colleges and Universities in Liaoning Province”. In 2019, it was awarded “The First Batch of First-Class Undergraduate Speciality Construction Sites in Liaoning Province” and “The First Batch of National First-Class Undergraduate Speciality Construction Sites”.
The Ideological and Political Education Speciality offers a 4-year undergraduate program with a total of 150 credits. Its main modules include Principles of Ideological and Political Education, Methods of Ideological and Political Education, Chinese Revolutionary History, Political Science, Marxist Philosophy, Marxist Political Economics, Introduction to Mao Zedong Thought and Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Introduction to Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era, etc.
Postgraduate programs: theSchool of Marxism is authorized to confer two first-level disciplines: Philosophy, and Marxist Theory; eight second-level disciplines: Marxist Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Ethics, Philosophy of Science and Technology, Basic Principles of Marxism, Study on Sinicization of Marxism, Ideological and Political Education, Research on Basic Problems of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History. The discipline of Marxist Theory has been awarded “The First-Class Construction Speciality of Universities”, and the discipline of Ideological and Political Education has been approved as “Key Discipline of Liaoning Province” and “Cultivation Discipline of Featured Discipline Construction Project of Core Competitiveness of Colleges and Universities in Liaoning Province”.
The School of Marxism offers 3-year postgraduate programs with a total of 50 credits. The main modules of Marxist Philosophy program include Study of Philosophical Classics, Basic Problems and Methods of Philosophy, Frontier Problems of Philosophy;
l The main modules of Chinese Philosophy program include Study of Philosophical Classics, Basic Problems and Methods of Philosophy, Frontier Problems of Philosophy;
l The main modules of Ethics speciality are Ethical Principles, Thematic Research on Citizen Moral Construction in the New Era, Thematic Research on Economic Ethics;
l The main modules of Philosophy of Science and Technology program include Philosophy of Science and Technology, Ecological Philosophy, Science and Technology and Society;
l The main modules of Basic Principles of Marxism include Introduction to Marxist Classics, Thematic Study of the Basic Principles of Marxism, The History of Marxist Development;
l The main modules of Study on Sinicization of Marxism program include The Basic Theory and Method of Marxism in China, Thematic Research on Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era, Thematic Research on Theory and Practice of Social Development in Contemporary China;
l The main modules of Ideological and Political Education program include Research on the Basic Theory and Method of Ideological and Political Education, Thematic Research on Xi Jinping’s Important Exposition of Ideological and Political Education, Thematic Research on Ideological and Political Education and Cultural Inheritance and Innovation, Thematic Research on Contemporary Social Thoughts and Youth Ideological and Political Education;
l The main modules of Research on Basic Problems of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History program include Thematic Study on the History of the Communist Party of China, Research on the Historical Process and Basic Experience of Modern China, Research on the Ruling History and Ruling Law of the Communist Party of China.
IV. Academic Research
As of now, the School of Marxism has been approved to conduct 26 national and ministerial research projects, and over 100 projects at the provincial level. Also, over 400 academic papers have been published in authoritative journals as well as 64 academic monographs. The school has won 8 Philosophy and Social Science Achievement Awards by the People’s Government of Liaoning Province.
V. International Exchange and Cooperation
The School of Marxism organizes 1 international academic conference every year. Annually, 3-5 teachers will participate in international academic exchange seminars on average, and 2-3 teachers will deliver keynote speeches.
VI. Distinguished Alumni
l Zhang Dexiang, graduated in 1981, was the former director of Liaoning Provincial Department of Education, party secretary, professor and doctoral supervisor of Dalian University of Technology.
l Wang Shan, graduated in 1981, was the former Vice Minister of the United Front Work Department of Liaoning Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Liaoning University.
l Tian Pengying, graduated in 1985, is currently level-2 professor, doctoral supervisor and the dean of the College, Marxism of North-eastern University, and the distinguished professor in the Changjiang Scholars Program by Minister of Education.
l In addition, dozens of alumni are serving as principals and secretaries of various primary and secondary schools, making important contributions to basic education in Liaoning Province and winning praise from all walks of life.
