I. History and Development
Founded in 2003, the College of Sports Science (CSS), was originally known as the Department of Physical Education and Research. The CSS now has three undergraduate sports programs, four master’sprograms in secondary disciplines of physical education, and one master’s program in physical education. The physical education speciality is a national first-class undergraduate construction site. The CSS has three teaching departments: physical education, sports training and national traditional sports, and public sports.

II. Faculty and Students
As of December, 2022, the CSS has 521 undergraduates, who can obtain a bachelor’s in physical education programs,and 92 graduate students in sports programs. Students are from different provinces across the country, though mainly from Liaoning Province.
There are 60 faculty members in the CSS,of which 9 have obtained doctorates, and 2 Ph.D. candidates. 30 faculty members have senior professional titles, including 12 professors and 18 associate professors, and 13 have overseas study experience. The CPES has 13 postgraduate instructors, 1 international-level judge, 9 national-level judges, 40 visiting professors, and nearly 20 part-time teachers in various domestic academic groups and associations.
III. Degree Programs
The CSS has two degree levels: undergraduate programs, whichinclude physical education, sports training, national traditional sports, and apostgraduate program of physical education. The master’s academic programs cover sports humanities, sociology, sports education and training, sports human science and national traditional sports. Meanwhile, the master’s professional programs cover physical education, as well as sports training.
IV. Academic Research
In the past decade, the CSS faculty members have published 39 papers in authoritative academic journals such as Chinese Social Science Citation Index(CSSCI) and Science Citation Index(SCI), as well as 17 monographs and textbooks. They have won five government awards such as the Social Science Achievement Award of the National Civil Affairs Commission and the Liaoning Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Achievement Award. The CSS has 3 scientific research platforms: the key base of sports social science research of the General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China, the sports culture research base of the General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China, and the Shenyang Ice and Snow Culture and Industry Development Research Centre.
V. International Exchange and Cooperation
In recent years, the CSS has undertaken sports exchange and teacher training work with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Commerce, and has organized 1-2 international academic conferences each year. There are three undergraduate and four graduate programs accepting international students; the CSS has carried out exchange cooperation with many international universities in the following areas: credit exchange, promotion and exemption of graduate students, and publication of international papers; The CSS has successfully sent teachers and students to the United States, Japan, Portugal, Italy, Russia and other countries, and to Taiwan for training and exchange, receiving wide praise from international friends and compatriots in Taiwan .
VI. Distinguished Alumni
The CSS has cultivated a large number of outstanding graduates over the years. One of our outstanding alumni is Ren Ziwei, who graduated in 2021 from theSports Training Program, and has won two Olympic gold medals at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games as well asthe honorary title of “outstanding contribution individual” at the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
