I. History and Development
Founded in 2001, the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), previously the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, currently offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate programs include, Tourism Management,Exhibition Economy and Management, Hotel Management, and History Education. The school also offers two master’s academic programs: Tourism Management and Curriculum and Instruction (Tourism Management), and one master’s professional program in tourism administration (MTA).
It has the Research Base for Ethnic Minority Culture in Northern China, the Chinese Manchu Language Proficiency Assessment Centre, Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centre of Tourism Management, Liaoning Research Base for Manchu Cultural Resources and Development, Shenyang Key Laboratory of Digital Culture, Tourism, and Intelligent Application.
The school is the director unit of the Tourism Education Branch of China Tourism Association and the secretary-general unit of Liaoning Provincial School-Enterprise Cooperation Alliance for Tourism Service.

II. Faculty and Students
Currently, the school has an enrolled 926 undergraduates and 30 graduates. For undergraduates, those who complete their study in the programs of Tourism Management, Exhibition Economy and Management, and Hotel Management will be granted Bachelor’s in Management, and those in the programs of History Education are granted a Bachelor’s degree in History.
For graduates, those who complete their study in the master’s academic programs of Tourism Management or in MTA,will be granted Master’s in Management.
Students come from 23 provinces across the country, with 1 undergraduate from Russia and 1 graduate student from Vietnam. In recent years, our students have won over one hundred honours and prizes at national and provincial levels.
There are 50 faculty members in our school, 38 of whom are full-time teachers. Among them, 20 have a doctorate,7 are professors and 16 are associate professors, 8 have overseas academic experience, 18 are teachers with dual certifications. The school has 1 Teacher of Distinction at the provincial level and 17 graduate instructors at the university level.

The duration of an undergraduate is usually four years.
The program of Tourism Management requires 150 credits in total and includes the following core modules: Introduction to Tourism, Tourism Planning and Development, Tourism Destination Management, etc. The program of Tourism Management has won various titles and honours at national and provincial levels, which include “National First-Class Undergraduate Program”, “National Featured Speciality”, “Speciality with Distinctive Features and Strengths in Liaoning Province”, “Liaoning Provincial Application-Oriented Exemplary Speciality”,“Five-Star Speciality in the Comprehensive Evaluation of Undergraduate Programs in Liaoning”.
The program of Hotel Management requires 150 credits in total, with the following core modules: Introduction to Hotel Management, Restaurant Management, Hotel Human Resources Management, etc. The program of Hospitality Management was approved to be “Liaoning Provincial Exemplary Speciality for Undergraduate Education” and has established a comprehensive strategic cooperation with several well-known hotels at home and abroad, such as Hilton Hotel Group.
The program of History Education requires 154 credits and its core modules include General History of China, General History of the World, Teaching Design of Middle School History Subject, etc.
The duration of graduate programs is three years, with a requirement of at least 45 credits for Curriculum and Instruction program and Tourism Management program, and at least 40 credits for MTA program. The core modules of Curriculum and Instruction program include Basic Theories in Education, Educational Research Methodology, History of Education in China and Abroad, General Introduction to Curriculum and Teaching Theories, Research and Practice of Tourism Educational Reform, etc.
The core modules included in Tourism Management program (the master’s academic degree program) are Research on Management, Science of Tourism Resources, Theories and Methods of Tourism Planning, Strategic Management of Tourism Enterprises, etc.
For Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) program (the master’s professional program), the core modules include Tourism English, Development and Management of Tourism Destination, Tourism Investment and Financial Management, etc.
IV. Academic Research
The faculty members have published over 160 research papers in Social Science Citation Index(SSCI), Science Citation Index(SCI), Chinese Social Science Citation Index(CSSCI) and Chinese Science Citation Database((CSCD) or other authoritative academic journals, and over 20 academic monographs, and has won more than 30 awards such as the Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award of Liaoning Province. Our school has led the establishment of School-Enterprise Alliance of Tourism Service Industry in Liaoning Province, which includes 47 colleges and universities on the supply side and 108 units on the demand side.
Over the past five years, the faculty members have undertaken 4 research projects at the national level, and over 120 projects sponsored by the humanity and social science funds or natural science funds at provincial or ministerial levels. We have also carried out over 10 enterprise-university-research cooperation projects.
V. International Exchange and Cooperation
Every year, more than 10 teachers are sent to participate in international academic exchanges and conferences, at which they give keynote speeches. The school has cooperated with over 10 universities abroad and undertaken international exchange programs such as “Silk Road” National Tourism Talent Training Program of the Ministry of Education. Currently, the school has cooperated with the University of Ulster in the UK, Easter Stroudsburg University in USA, and Gyeonggi University in Korea to carry out international dual-degree programs in international tourism management.
VI. Distinguished Alumni
l Song Yuxue, graduated with a bachelor’s in 2003, has passed the Advanced Human Resource Strategic Management Certification of Cornell University and is now the Regional Director for Human Development of Swire Hotels under Swire Group.
l Shao Kai, graduated with a bachelor’s in 2007, is currently Deputy Dean of School of Management and Journalism of Shenyang Sport University. He has presided over several research projects sponsored by social science funds and won a series of honorary titles such as Shenyang Senior Talent.
l Li Hui, graduated with a bachelor’s in 2001, is currently a professor of Liaoning Economic Management Cadre Institute. He was appointed as director of the Culture & Tourism Committee of Cultural Protection Association of Dadong, Shenyang, and director of Shenyang Cultural Heritage Protection Research Institute.
l Wang Yeshu, graduated with a bachelor’s in 1998, is currently the third-level investigator of Law Enforcement Division of Liaoning Provincial Department of Natural Resources, and deputy director of the Bureau of Natural Resources of Tacheng, Xinjiang.
l Ma Ning, graduated with a bachelor’s in 2017, is currently the operation manager of the Group Tourism Department of CTRIP Vacation Division.
l Guo Dan, graduated with a bachelor’s in 2001, is currently director of the Administration Department of Jinzhou Tourism Bureau.
l Bi Changzheng, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2007, is currently the MICE Manager of Sheraton Hotel, Shenyang.
l Jiang Yujun, graduated with a bachelor’s in 2007, is currently the revenue management director and deputy sales director of The Castle Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Dalian.
l Mao Runze, graduated with a master’s in 2005, is currently a post-doctorate and a graduate instructor, dean of the School of Tourism of Shanghai Normal University / dean of the School of Tourism and Leisure Management of Shanghai Institute of Tourism, executive director of Leisure and Tourism Research Centre of Shanghai Normal University. He has presided over more than 20 projects sponsored by the National Social Science Fund of China (Youth Program), the General Program of China Post-doctoral Science Foundation and the Program of China National Tourism Administration, and has published nearly 50 academic papers. He has won the honorary title of the first batch of young experts in tourism approved by the China National Tourism Administration, and an outstanding Communist Party member of the Party Committee system of Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Work.
l Liu Song, graduated with a master’s in 2008, is currently an associate professor, and a graduate instructor. He also serves as deputy director of the Personnel Department of Changzhou Institute of Technology, director of Yangtze River Delta Tourism and Leisure Industry Research Institute. He has presided over more than 10 research projects sponsored by the National Social Science Fund of China, the Humanities and Social Science Fund of Ministry of Education, and the Philosophy and Social Science Fund for Institutions of Higher Education in Jiangsu. He has also published nearly 20 research papers in CSSCI indexed journals such as Tourism Tribune, and 4 academic monographs. He won the second prize of Excellent Research Achievements in Culture and Tourism approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the second prize of Excellent Achievements in Social Science Application Research Project of Jiangsu Province, and the first prize of Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Science Research of Changzhou. He has been selected to be a member of excellent young teacher training project, “Qinglan Project” for Jiangsu Institutions of Higher Education.
l Yu Dongxuan, graduated with a master’s in 2011, is currently deputy director of Culture and Tourism Bureau of Qingzhou City, Shandong Province, and the standing member of the 15th Qingzhou Municipal Committee of the CPPCC. She is committed to the development of local tourism, and has participated in the establishment of Qingzhou Ancient Town Tourist Area as national 5A-class tourist attractions, the first batch of national whole-region tourism demonstration areas, and the national demonstration county for leisure agriculture and rural tourism.
l Li Long, graduated with a master’s in 2013, is a post-doctorate of China Tourism Academy (Data Centre of Ministry of Culture and Tourism), member of Party Committee of School of Management of Suzhou University, Secretary of Teachers' Party Branch. He has presided over more than 20 research projects sponsored by Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Philosophy and Social Science Planning Fund of Anhui Province, Fund of the Educational Department of Anhui Province, and Fund of Culture and Tourism Department of Anhui Province, and participated in more than 30 research projects sponsored by the National Natural Science Fund of China, the National Social Science Fund of China, and the Humanities and Social Science Fund of the Ministry of Education. He has also published over 30 academic papers and won over 10 awards for high-quality research papers and reports. Several of his consulting reports have been adopted by provincial or municipal government.
