I.  History and Development

Founded in 1986, the Faculty of Foreign Language Teaching, was formerly known as the Public Foreign Language Teaching and Research Department. At present, the faculty mainly undertakes the teaching of college English, Russian and Japanese for non-English-major undergraduate students. For graduate students, the comprehensive training of academic masters’ students in Curriculum and Pedagogy (English) and the professional training of part-time master of education (Subject English).









II.  Faculty and Students

There are 81 faculty members, including 76 full-time teachers. Among them 5 hold doctorates and 3 doctoral candidates; 34 are professors and associate professors; 11 have overseas academic experience.

In 2003, the faculty enrolled full-time academic graduate students in Curriculum and Teaching Theory Program (English) for the first time. As of December 2022, there are a total of 410 graduate students, who have been granted master’s in education.

 

III.  Degree Programs

Curriculum and Teaching Theory (English)

 

The 3-year graduate program requires 47 credits. The main modules of Curriculum and Teaching Theory (English) include Language Studies, Foreign Language Teaching Theory and Practice, Basic Theories of Education, Educational Research Methods, History of Chinese and Foreign Education, General Theory of Curriculum and Teaching, Theories and Schools of English Linguistics, English Teaching Assessment and Testing, Second Language Acquisition, etc.

 

IV.  Academic Research

In recent years, the faculty members have undertaken 7 national and ministerial scientific research projects and more than 100 provincial and municipal scientific research projects. More than 60 monographs, textbooks and auxiliary books have been published, and more than 200 papers have been published in national and provincial academic journals.

 

V.  International Exchange and Cooperation

The faculty has sent a number of teachers to be directors or Chinese language teachers to the Confucius Institute of St. Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon and TAG Confucius Institute in Amman, Jordan. It has periodically sent teachers to study, visit and work abroad, invited distinguished foreign teachers, experts and scholars to give lectures in the faculty, and sent teachers to attend international academic conferences.
