At the arrival of spring, SYNU teachers have embarked on their journey for the new semester. Recently, to better understand and supervise the teachers’ work, Secretary of the Party Committee Jiang Fengchun, PresidentYang Song, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Li Hongjun, Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection Yang Xu, Vice Presidents Tong Yuping, Zhao Liqiang and Shan Shouwei visited classrooms of different colleges to observe the teachers’ courses.
Secretary of the Party Committee Jiang Fengchun observed the course of the Basic Principles of Marxism taught by Wang Gang from the School of Marxism and affirmed the performance of the teacher after class. He pointed out that ideological and political courses are key courses for implementing the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. They also serve as important vehicles for guiding young students to strengthen their convictions and uphold the Four Confidences. He required that all teachers in the university vigorously promote the spirit of educators, keep in mind the mission of educating people for the Party and the country, integrate the spirit of educators into the entire process of teaching and educating people, scientifically design teaching objectives, and focus on improving course quality. Teachers should conduct teaching research by translating the latest achievements of the Party’s innovative theory into vivid teaching cases and reform both teaching content and form in line with the guiding principle of Grand Ideological and Political Education. Only in this way, can we feature our classes with both theoretical depth and contemporary warmth. Based on the characteristics of teacher education, all teachers of SYNU should spare no effort in imparting knowledge and educating people, contributing their strength to the construction of a high-level normal university with high-quality and conductive teaching.
President Yang Song observed the course of the Selected Chinese Historical Texts taught by Wei Shuguang from the School of Sociology and History. After class, she had a cordial exchange with the teacher and the college leaders. She said that teachers should continuously enrich their cultural knowledge and improve their professional competence, innovate teaching methods, diversify teaching forms, and make their courses more attractive and effective. The president required that teachers from all majors should take curriculum construction as a breakthrough point, better shape their major strengths and curriculum system, improve the quality and efficiency in major construction, and effectively turn the courses’ strengths into competence in talent training. She stated that major development and talent cultivation are the core supports for the development of the university. She hoped that all teachers of SYNU will dig deeper into teaching, educate students wholeheartedly, and all departments will strengthen leadership and make precise efforts to push the university’s teaching quality and talent cultivation to a higher level.
To better know about the teachers’ working state as well as the students’ performance, other school leaders visited classrooms for different majors. After class, they had in-depth exchanges and discussions with the teachers and the leader of their colleges. Li Hongjun observed the course of Drama Appreciation and other courses taught by Wei Lianyu; Yang Xu observed the course of Broadcast host creative basis II taught by Li Huanhuan; Tong Yuping observed the postgraduate course of Collection and Research of Ancient Books taught by Hao Jidong and Introduction to Foreign Literature taught by Liu Yiyu; Zhao Liqiang observed the course of International Marketing taught by Li Minshu; and Shan Shouwei observed the course of Ancient Chinese Literature 3 taught by Luo Ying. The school leaders fully affirmed the teachers’ performance in the new semester for their thorough preparation, well-organized teaching process, and outstanding teaching highlights. At the same time, based the current situation of the classes, the school leaders put forward 23 specific suggestions on optimizing teaching content, innovating teaching models, and improving the effectiveness of classroom teaching. All the suggestions are given to encourage teachers to better comply with the development trend of digital and intelligent education, to actively explore the new model of “AI+teaching”, and to empower talent training with teaching reform and innovation.
Statistics showed that the university offered a total of 1,040 undergraduate courses in the first week of this semester, which involved 2,803 classes, 1,131 teachers and 145,781 students. Feedback from the students as well as the school leaders showed that the courses were fully prepared and thoroughly taught, the students attended classes with full attention, all faculty and students were in high spirit, and the teaching order on campus was well-maintained.
In the new semester, SYNU will further promote the spirit of educators, fully implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, steadily deepen the reform of the innovative talent training models, accelerate the construction of AIempowered smart courses, stay committed to the core tasks of undergraduate education, and strive to cultivate applicationoriented talents that meet the needs of the times. All these efforts will lay a solid foundation for building a high-level normal university with prominent advantages, distinctive features and public reputation.
