Shenyang Normal University Holds 2026 Spring Semester “First Lesson”: Flag-raising Ceremony Themed “Heroes Live Forever,” & “Hello, Lei Feng: Face to Face with Lei Feng in the New Era” Event.
As spring arrives and everything thrive, Shenyang Normal University held the 2026 Spring Semester First Lesson flag‑raising ceremony themed “Heroes Live Forever”, together with the ““Hello, Lei Feng: Face to Face with Lei Feng in the New Era” event at the North District Stadium on March 2. More than 5,000 faculty members and students gathered to attend this meaningful “First Lesson of the Semester.”
Present at the event were Li Hongjun, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee; Shan Shouwei, Vice Presidentof SYNU; and Luo Baoxu, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department. Also in attendance were heads of relevant university departments, as well as deputy Party secretaries in chargeof student affairs, Youth League Secretaries, and counselors from each college, along with representatives of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Wei Yingdong, Director of the Liaoning Provincial Blood Center, and Lang Fenghao, counselor to Jin Chenglong from Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, attended as specially invited guests. The ceremony was hosted by Geng Jiana, Director of the Student Affairs Department, Director of the Student Affairs Division and Deputy Director of the Armed Forces Department.
The event commenced with a solemn flag-raising ceremony. As the majestic national anthem resounded through the stadium, all faculty and students stood in solemn respect, watching the bright Five-Starred Red Flag ascend slowly and flutter proudly in the spring breeze.

Li Hongjun addressed the ceremony, emphasizing that Lei Feng has never left us, and heroes are always among us. He pointed that Comrade Jin Chenglong, posthumously awarded the honorary title of “Liaoning Role Model of the Times”, embodied the spirit of Lei Feng in the new era through his short yet remarkable life, setting a vivid and lofty spiritual example for young people of the new era. Li called upon students to follow the example of Lei Feng and of his modern-day successors. He encouraged students to hold firm to their ideals—let learning nourish vision; to cultivate moral integrity—let actions speak of commitment; and to build solid skills—let efforts define youth. He urged all students to carry forward the Lei Feng Spirit, strive to become young people of with ideas, sense of responsibility and competence, and pass on the heroic legacy so as to live up to the great era with their youth.

During the event, Shenyang Normal University officially inaugurated its Blood Donation Volunteer Service Team. Shan Shouwei presented the team flag and called on faculty and students to take an active part in volunteer service, so that the Lei Feng Spiritcould be carried forward and inherited from generation to generation.

Lang Fenghao gave a touching and profound account of Comrade Jin Chenglong’s life around three themes: finding steadfast dedication in the ordinary, revealing noble character in details; answering a mission with his life, honoring a calling with his passion; gathering individual sparks into a radiant galaxy, keeping the spirit of Lei Feng alive. His heartfelt narration resonated deeply with the faculty and students, moving and motivating everyone present. Wei Yingdong made an appeal for blood donation at the ceremony and awarded a certificate of appreciation to the university. He called on all faculty and students to follow the example of Comrade Jin Chenglong,to share the warmth of life through blood donation and to carry forward the spirit of Lei Feng through meaningful action.

Guo Zitong, an outstanding student veteran from the School of Foreign Languages, delivered a speech at the flag-raising ceremony. She shared her personal journey of leaving the classroom for the barracks and serving the country with youthful dedication, inspiring her fellow students to follow Lei Feng’s example through concrete actions, ensuring that his spirit continues to flourish across the campus.

As the “First Lesson of the 2026 Spring Semester” , the event carried a powerful theme and profound meaning—enlightening the mind, stirring the soul, and spurring action. Faculty and students alike remarked that Comrade Jin Chenglong’s story was deeply moving and powerfully motivating. They expressed their commitment to follow the example of heroes like him, to carry forward the spirit of Lei Feng with their youth and passion, and to live out the true meaning of “Heroes Live Forever” through their own actions—contributing their youthful strength to the great cause of national rejuvenation and the Chinese Dream. Shenyang Normal University will take this event as an opportunity to launch the third chapter of its twelve-chapter “Cultivating character and Educating People” series—the “Spiritual Legacy” thematic education activities. This initiative aims to make Lei Feng-themed activities regular and sustained, guiding students to internalize the spirit in their hearts and externalize it in their actions, nurturing a new generation of young people capable of taking on the mission of national rejuvenation.
